19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has endured a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily progressed in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.

This represents the player's maiden title after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to wonder if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

However the player has altered his approach in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a deficit in the first set against the tricky opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He saved four early-game break points in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
